Ah, the poker steam. If a poker gambler states never to have peered down the barrel of an approaching steam – they are either lying or they have not been betting very long. This does not mean of course that each and every one has been on steam before, some people have wonderful willpower and carry their losses as a defeat and keep it at that. To be a strong poker player, it is absolutely crucial to treat your wins and your losses in an identical way – with no emotion. You compete in the game the same way you did following a difficult loss as you would after winning a big hand. All poker masters are not tempted by tilting after a horrible beat as they are particularly seasoned and you should be to.

You have to understand that you can not win each hand you are in, regardless if you are the strongest player. Hands that normally make people go on tilt are hands you were the favorite or at a minimum believed you were up until you were rivered and you burned a huge portion of your bankroll. Bad defeats are going to happen. It’s an inevitable outcome of playing Texas Holdem, or for that matter any type of poker.

Seeing as we are assumingly (almost all of us) in the game for one reason – to earn $$$$, it certainly makes sense that we would gamble appropriately to maximize winnings. Now let us say you are up one hundred dollars off of a $100 deposit, and you take a gigantic blow in a NL game and your stack is at one hundred and twenty dollars. You have lost eighty dollars in a hand where you were certain to pick up $200two hundred dollars when you decided to go all-in on the flop and had a 10 – 1 edge. And that fiend! He banged you out on the river? – Well stop right there. This is a quintessential choice for a brand-new player to begin tilting. They just blew too much money on one round that they really should have won and they are aggravated
