Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he loved gambling on various card games at a young age. He found himself getting very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and don’t win most times. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he possibly could improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus attention even more on poker.

The actual advancement in his abilities happened when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would frequently challenge each other. He was able to access a few of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. He used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit holdem.

He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
