Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While participating in net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
