Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he loved participating in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting very aggressive in these card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to play some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he played extensive hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus attention more on the game.

The actual advancement in his skills happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would often challenge one another. He had access into several of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, he would tweak his logical thinking techniques. He used these strategy ideas in the game of NL Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. She was a superb student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the strongest women players the poker arena ever. Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
