Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha/8 starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The players will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize exactly three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same notion in just about all poker games.
The low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
Although it seems difficult at first, following a few rounds you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing assortment of wagering options and because you have numerous players shooting for the high hand, and several shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha hi/low.
